Cavite Campus
The TUP Cavite campus is located in Barangay Salawag, Dasmariñas, Cavite. The campus was established through Board Resolution No. 1985, s. 1979. The Cavite campus was established with the primary aim of training technicians and skilled workers for gainful employment and income generation particularly in the CALABARZON area. At present, the campus’ academic offerings are focused on 3-year technology courses and bachelor’s and masters degree programs.

The intervention of the University in TUP Visayas campus started with the Letter of Instruction (LOI) No. 79 issued by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on December 28, 1978 authorizing TUP to administer the operation of the then Visayas Technician Institute. In 1985, pursuant to TUP Implementing Order No. 85-15, the Visayas Technician Institute was renamed the TUP Visayas campus. Presently, TUP Visayas is situated in Talisay City, Negros Occidental with two branches located in Sagay City and Cadiz City. Currently, the academic offerings of TUP Visayas campus are in the 3-year technology courses, bachelor’s degree, and masters degree in Technology.

The Establishment of TUP

The Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) is the flagship of technology education in the Philippines. Since the establishment of the TUP from a trade school in 1901 to a state university in 1978, it has exercised its tremendous influence in industrial arts, post secondary, vocational-industrial education and in technical and engineering education. It has helped in the professional growth and development of teachers, supervisors and administrators in various educational institutions. Likewise, it has greatly contributed to the supply of skilled manpower requirements in the labor market and industries. At the same time, it has gradually provided the dynamic leadership in conducting applied research and developmental studies for the advancement and transfer of technology, especially in the countryside.

The Technological University of the Philippines was established upon the enactment of Organic Act No. 74 by the Philippine Commission in 1901. TUP was known then as the Manila Trade School (MTS) with the primary intention of developing the dignity of labor. In 1910, MTS was renamed as the Philippine School of Arts and Trades (PSAT). Pursuant to Republic Act 2237 issued on July 17, 1959, PSAT was given the college status and was renamed the Philippine College of Arts and Trades (PCAT). From 1959 to 1978, PCAT pioneered programs in engineering technology and industrial teacher education. By virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1518 issued on July 11, 1978, PCAT was converted into the Technological University of the Philippines.

Presently, TUP is a system comprising of four campuses. The main campus of the University is located in Manila. The three satellite campuses are in Taguig, Cavite, and Visayas. In addition to the four campuses, TUP maintains the Integrated Research and Training Center (IRTC) located in the main campus. The Center was established by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through a Technical Cooperation in 1982.

Mission/Vision

The mission of TUP is stated in Section 2 of P.D. No. 1518 as follows:
“The University shall provide higher and advanced vocational, technical, industrial, technological and professional education and training in industries and technology, and in practical arts leading to certificates, diplomas and degrees. It shall provide progressive leadership in applied research, developmental studies in technical, industrial, and technological fields and production using indigenous materials; effect technology transfer in the countryside; and assist in the development of small-and-medium scale industries in identified growth centers.”

Under the present leadership, Dr. Olympio V. Caparas envisions TUP to be a reengineered technological university with cutting-edge technology programs, operating in a high trust environment, and state-of-the art facilities with high quality workfoce.

St. Joseph College – Cavite City (History, Vision, Mission, Courses, Scholarships, How to Apply)

Saint Joseph College Cavite City is a Roman Catholic school located at San Roque, Cavite City in the Philippines. It was established in 1945 and was run by the Augustinian Recollect Sisters. The first opening of classes was on July 2, 1945. The first school building was then known as St. Joseph Institute and in 1947 it was renamed St. Joseph College. Today, SJC, located in Cavite Cityoffers education from Preschool to Graduate School. After 54 years of service, SJC is still in service and continues to stand proud as an educational institution which aims to mold the minds of the youth for quality Catholic education.

History

In order to appreciate fully the developments and contributions made by Saint Joseph College, a brief insight into the historical background of the founding sisters could bring to light a deeper understanding of the motives and aims that led to the establishment and maintenance of the educational institution. The Saint Joseph College has its roots in the Congregation of the Augustinian RecollectSisters. The congregation started in 1719 and a house was built for them known as the Beaterio de San Sebastian.

Thirty five years later, in 1754, by order of the Governor and Captain-General of thePhilippines, the Recollects of the Third Order were examined to select the sisters who were well-prepared to teach. Among those selected to be the first teacherswere Sor Nicholasa de San Jose, Sor Ignacia dela Santisima Trinidad and Sor Clara de Sta. Rita. The teaching mission was carried on in the Beaterio and the nature of the teaching done was more on the tutorial level. This kind of instruction went on until 1907 when formal education started in the Beaterio now known as Saint Rita College. The teaching apostolate continued but was interrupted byWorld War II.

In the early post liberation days of 1945, the late Msgr. Pedro Lerena was the parish priest of Cavite City. He found the opportunity to propose his plan to the Very Reverend Mother Rosario Rosales, the Superior General of the Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters, of having a Catholic school in the city of Cavite. The Superior General of the Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters sent the very first group of Sisters: Sister Ma Celina Magcawas, as the Superior-Principal, Sister Caridad Salazar and Sister Margarita Ponce, as her companion. The work started under the superiorship of Sister Ma. Celina Magcawas. The sisters rented an old two-storey house on a lot directly across the street at the back entrance of the San Roque Parish Church and near the sea in a quite residential section of the city. On July 2, 1945, classes were opened and this became the first school building and known as Saint Joseph Institute. Inauguration was made in the presence of Very Reverend Mother General Rosario Rosales and a group of Sisters.

In 1946, The following courses were given their full government recognition: complete elementary and secondary course, Junior Normal (E.T.C.) and Liberal Arts. In 1947, the school was re-named Saint Joseph College and the course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science inEducation (B.S.E.) was opened and was given a full recognition in 1949. Then the rented house was bought and an additional lot was purchased. In 1950, the Quonset was demolished together with the old house and the construction of a new building of three-storey started. The construction was finished in the same year with the help of the generous benefactors: the U.S. Navy and Sangley Point, Mrs. Antolia Cosca, Mrs. Soledad Valeriano, Mrs. Basilia Mangilit, Mrs. Flora Sabadistro and Don Salvador Magcawas. After ten years (1945–1955) of untiring efforts, Sister Ma. Celina Magcawas was recalled to the Mother House in Manila.

In 1955, Mother Angeles Gabutina took over the Superiorship and the supervision of the school. Equal in energy and leadership, Mother Angeles Gabutina gave full concern to the young sturdy institution. New buildings were constructed which housed the high school department during the day and the collegiate department in the evening. The ground floor featured an all purpose hall. New equipment for the laboratory, books and reference materials for the library were purchased to maintain a good standard for the school. In 1964, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (B.S.E.Ed.) was opened and was given full government recognition in 1967. Then 2,500 square meters of sea area was reclaimed and cemented. Here, the gymnasium was constructed and it also served as an auditorium during the festivities and on special occasions. In, 1968, a graduate course in Education (M.A.) was opened and was given a full recognition in 1970. This helped the professionals of the neighboring towns and in the city to further their educational training. After fifteen years (1955–1970) of effective leadership, Mother Angeles Gabutina was recalled to the Mother House in Manila for another assignment. A continued progress of Saint Joseph College in the years to came was assured. At the opening of classes for the school year 1970, Sister Agustina Salcedo was sent by the Superior General to take over the work as Superior-Principal and the Dean of the College Department. In 1972, Sister Agustina worked for an additional course, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) and had an initial enrolment of forty one students in Pre-Nursing. The enrolment has increased ever since. After five years labor, Sister Agustina Salcedo was recalled to the Mother House in Manila.

Saint Jude College – Cavite (History, Vision, Mission, Core Values, Programs offered, Scholarships)

History

St. Jude College was established in honor of St. Jude Thaddeus, the Apostle and Patron Saint of the Hopeful and the embodiment of the true Christian spirit. Through its allied health services, it started as the St. Jude Maternity Clinic in 1950. Faced with the growing health needs of the community and the breakthroughs and advances in allied medical sciences, the founders, Dr. Ramon D. Atienza, Jr. and his wife, Dr. Felicidad Calip-Atienza, expanded the Maternity Clinic from a two-storey building to a five-storey building with a 120-bed capacity. Later, they built an eight-storey building to house the School of Nursing. The two edifices were inaugurated on the feast day of St. Jude Thaddeus on October 28, 1968. As a result, the Maternity Clinic was elevated to the status of a College for consistently producing outstanding students and exemplary topnotchers in the licensure or board examinations since 1971.

Through the years, with the sheer dedication and passion of the founders, an additional eight-storey building, was erected to comprise the Main Building in 1977. By then, baccalaureate courses such as BS in Secretarial Administration, BS in Commerce, BS in Business Administration, BS in Nutrition and Dietetics, BS in Nursing and Bachelor of Arts Major in English, Filipino, History and Psychology were already being offered. Further, it had also offered its first masteral course, Masteral in Hospital Administration and two-year associate courses in Junior Secretarial, Dietitian Aide and Health Aide.

In 1985, government permits were granted to the college to open the following courses: Associate in Hotel and Restaurant and Management, Associate in Radiologic Technology and Master of Arts in Teaching Nursing Education. Courses such as Midwifery, BS in Civil Engineering, BS in Industrial Engineering, Associate in Tourism and BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management were likewise granted their respective government permits in the late 80s. Due to the rapid expansion of academic courses, another eight-storey building was constructed between the existing Main College Building and the Nursing Building in 1992. This is presently the Physical Therapy Building.

With a vision for a progressive, proactive and dynamic education and the mission of upholding academic and clinical excellence, courses such as BS in Physical Therapy and BS in Computer Science were offered in 1995. A year later, the eight storey Atienza-Calip Building was constructed.
