MANILA, Philippines – Former actor-politician and Revilla clan patriarch Ramon Revilla, Sr. was recently honored with the Gawad Miong award by the Cavite government.
According to a report aired on “Umagang Kay Ganda” on Aug, 10, the now wheelchair-bound showbiz legend graced the event to personally receive the award. He was accompanied by members of the Revilla clan, including young actor-politician grandson Jolo Revilla.
Also present at the event was Ramon Sr.’s political rival Juanito “Johnny” Remulla, another recipient of the Gawad Miong award. The report said that the two amicably shook hands at the ceremony.
A separate story on abs-cbnnews.com also on Wednesday said that the Gawad Miong award is given to Caviteños who made significant contributions to enliven the province’s economy.

Jolo, an aspiring politician who currently serves as the president of Liga ng mga Barangay – Cavite Chapter and executive president of Liga ng mga Barangay ng Pilipinas, also told abs-cbnnews.com that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather and father Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.
Ramon Sr. kicked off his political career in 1992 after winning the second slot in the senatorial elections. He served for two terms that lasted until 2004. According to his profile in the Philippine Senate’s official website, the former politician authored a number of bills including Republic Act 8150 or the Public Works Act; Republic Act 8370 or the Children’s Media Act; and Republic Act 8294, most commonly known as “The Revilla Law,” which “amends and subsequently lower penalties imposed on illegal possession of firearms.”
