Our province is well-known for the high quality mussels/ ‘tahong’ that we produce.
Variants of tahong recipes have sprung out (i.e. tahong chips among others), and this time let us know more one of the most basic recipes, a brand of cooking which has become a daily dish among Cavitenos.
The Gisadong Tahong.
The following would be the recipe of the simple yet scrumptious dish (lifted from originalfilipinorecipes.blogspot.com).
Ingredients:
1 kg of tahong (mussels), washed thoroughly in a bowl
2-3 tbsp minced garlic
2-3 tbsp cooking oil
1 whole onion, sliced
2-3 thumb size ginger, skin and julienne
3 cups of water
24 tbsp patis
1 bundle chili leaves (dahon ng sili), washed and separate leaves from stalkProcedure of Cooking
In a heated pan with cooking oil, sautee garlic, onion, ginger and add tahong. Pour in patis and cover and simmer for 5-7 minute.Check if the mussels open then add water, and bring to boil and simmer for another 3 minute. Lastly add vetsin, salt to taste and include dahon ng sili. Served tahong recipe soup along with white steamy rice.
