History
First, there was the hospital. Then came the school.
Don Gregorio Andaman, Sr. dreamt, as a young boy, that he was going to build a medical institution that would cater to the health needs of the poor. He envisioned it to be one of the finest hospitals – a leader in the delivery of health services. Growing up, whose loved ones were taken away from him due to lack of medical attention, his dream did not end with a dream; rather, became a vision and a commitment.
Together with his wife, Dominga, he pursued for the attainment of his goals. They envisioned not only a hospital that can provide quality healthcare but also a school that can offer excellence in education yet affordable cost. His wife Dominga served as his inspiration and support in realizing all his dreams. And with that, he made a promise in his heart that when these institutions shall come to full pledge reality, he shall pay tribute to her by naming those after her.
The fulfilment of his ideas was a perfect example of full family involvement and dedication. As his wife being the main motivator, their six offsprings became instruments for the realization. The eldest son, Potenciano, became a surgeon by profession. Together with his parents, they established St. Anne Hospital in Lucena City and later, followed by Greg Hospital in Sariaya and Jane County Hospital in Pagbilao, both, still, located in Quezon Province. Soon after, a Nursing and Medical Sciences school was established in Quezon Province. Both the hospital and school boast of their enduring commitment to the community they serve in assuring a better future of patients and students under their care.
Their second child, Marita, became an obstetrician. With the addition of another doctor in the family, Don Gregorio was challenged to pursue bigger dreams. He built Hillside General Hospital in Alabang, Muntinlupa City – a location closer to his home province, Cavite. The other Andaman children – Emeteria, Monte and Lina – though not medical practitioners, provided much needed help and assistance in their family’s businesses by offering their respective expertise. Emie looks into the financial management. Monte, the mayor of Maragondon and an engineer by profession, is in – charge of construction and facilities development. Lina is in control of the human resources management. The youngest, Gregorio, Jr., also a doctor, takes charge of the hospital administration.
In the year 1991, St. Dominic Medical Center was established in Bacoor, Cavite.
12 years after the realization of the dream hospital in Cavite, an educational institution was founded by Don Gregorio Andaman, Sr. and his wife, Dominga, right beside the hospital. It was envisioned to fill the need for quality education in the arts and sciences in the CALABARZON area. Thus, St. Dominic College of Arts and Sciences was established.
In the six years since the school has been established, it has created an impact in Cavite. With its commitment to give quality education in an affordable cost, it helps meet the needs of the government, business and industry. And the institution generated impact anew with the change in the school’s name. Welcome to St. Dominic College of Asia!
Vision
A dynamic and proactive institution upholding the highest standards of excellence in community service, education and research towards the attainment of a better quality of life.
